Shortly after his election, Sheriff Vic Regalado held a meeting with Jon Echols, a state lawmaker and campaign donor whose company plans to bid on the jail’s $5 million annual medical contract. An existing requirement on experience in large jails prevented Echols’ company from bidding. So Regalado sought and received changes in the Request for Proposals.

Last year, Tulsa saw its own weeks of public protests following the killing of Eric Harris by Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office reserve deputy Robert Bates, yet none of the protests resulted in violence.
A vigil tonight will be held at Guthrie Green, and the Tulsa City Council has called for an emergency meeting to discuss the recent events in Dallas.
