The Frontier has hired Maddy Keyes to cover housing, evictions and homelessness in Oklahoma.
Keyes will report on the cost of housing and other issues that affect the lives of all Oklahomans.
Keyes grew up in Norman and graduated from the University of Oklahoma in May with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a minor in international studies. Keyes previously worked with The Frontier as a summer intern.
In college, Keyes worked as a Carnegie-Knight News21 fellow at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism. There, she was part of a team of 25 journalists that examined the impacts of the overturn of Roe v. Wade. Their project, America After Roe, won the grand prize at the 2024 Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Journalism Awards.
Keyes also covered national politics as a Washington, D.C., correspondent with Gaylord News and served in multiple roles at the University of Oklahoma’s student-led newspaper the OU Daily. Most recently, Keyes was selected as a Pulitzer Center Reporting Fellow to explore the intersection of climate change and mental health for Greenland’s Inuit people.
Funding for The Frontier to report on housing issues comes from a grant from the Arnall Family Foundation.
