Oklahomans are used to being told what our state is, what it isn’t, and what it should be. But the truth is more complicated. The story of Oklahoma comes into focus when someone is willing to look closely, ask hard questions, and follow the facts wherever they lead.
That’s the work The Frontier does every day.
This Giving Tuesday, I want to talk about why that work matters and why we need your help to continue doing it.
For 10 years, The Frontier has been a home for accountability journalism in Oklahoma. We investigate powerful institutions, shine light on government decisions that affect real people, and tell stories that would otherwise go untold.
Investigative journalism is expensive, slow, and meticulous. It requires time, expertise, and the willingness to fight for records, dig through documents, and to keep reporting until the truth comes into focus. In a world where newsrooms are shrinking and some are dying, the kind of work we do isn’t possible without reader support.
That’s why Giving Tuesday and the NewsMatch campaign are so important for us. From now through Dec. 31, your donations have more power than ever. One-time contributions up to $1,000 are matched dollar-for-dollar. And if you start a new recurring monthly donation, NewsMatch will match it 12 times. That means a new $10 monthly donation becomes $120 for The Frontier. A new $25 monthly donation becomes $300. These matches are transformational for a small newsroom like ours.
Your support directly fuels the reporting that holds agencies, elected officials, and institutions accountable. It helps us send reporters to communities across the state, challenge secrecy in government, and give Oklahomans the information they need to make informed decisions about their lives. When we uncover toxic wastewater spilling onto rural land, uncover police misconduct, or reveal political operatives bending the rules, it’s because people like you decided that it’s worth investing in independent, nonprofit journalism.
The Frontier is free for everyone to read because we believe informed communities are stronger communities. We want every Oklahoman, regardless of income, to have access to reliable, fact-based journalism. But “free to read” doesn’t mean free to produce. The only way we can maintain this model is through the generosity of people who value the role journalism plays in a healthy society.
If you’ve read and appreciated our work — if you’ve ever shared one of our investigations, learned something new, or felt grateful that someone was asking the hard questions — then today is the day to help sustain it. Giving Tuesday is our biggest opportunity of the year to build the foundation that will support our reporting in 2025 and beyond.
This work matters. It matters to our staff, it matters to our state, and we believe it matters to you. Please consider making a donation today or becoming a new monthly supporter. With NewsMatch boosting your gift, your contribution will go further than ever.
Oklahoma needs strong, fearless, independent journalism. With your help, The Frontier will continue to provide it.
