Gilcrease Museum officials have argued that the institution’s top 10 pieces of art are worth more than the entire collection at the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, Ark.
And yet in terms of popularity, Gilcrease lags behind.
The Frontier recently asked Gilcrease curator Mark Dolph to talk about his 10 favorite pieces for an audio tour. He replied that he couldn’t stop at 10, and ultimately agreed to give our readers insight into his top 13 pieces at the museum.
Kevin Canfield on Thursday will report on why Gilcrease officials believe investing $65 million in Vision Tulsa funding would put the museum on par with Crystal Bridges, which draws five times as many people a year as the Gilcrease.
For now, listen as Dolph gives you a look at his favorites.
