The private company that manages Epic Charter Schools spends some of its state funding on a technology company managed by the spouse of Epic’s founder — one example of how the school’s financial web includes related companies and organizations.
Kanter said he anticipates his school will “serve primarily minority students who come from low-income families, many of whom are first generation immigrant families with low English language skills.”
Fewer than half of all students at three of the four virtual charter schools in Oklahoma graduated within six years, according to state data.
“I plan to ask her how she is planning to cooperate in a way that hasn’t already been taking place,” Provenzano said. “If the state department is doing its job … then $10 million doesn’t go poof.”
Epic collected the information, including home and email addresses, of teachers across the state through an open records request to the state department of education.
