The Oklahoma Department of Corrections opted to hire a private law firm in the $11 million lawsuit after Attorney General Mike Hunter issued an opinion on jail costs “which conflicted with the position of DOC.”
The reports, taken by Tulsa police in 2012, show Preston Doerflinger’s now ex-wife told officers Doerflinger choked her twice during an argument and took a phone away from her as she dialed 911.
A proposed bill would aim to streamline the process of testing rape kits and create a system to track how they’re being tested and the outcome of cases that involve sexual assault.
Tulsa Police Department so far has audited five years that span through 2010 to 2016 and found 680 untested rape kits.
The orders are immediately sealed by a judge upon being granted, but occasionally a few are accidentally filed publicly, allowing a glimpse at some hidden law enforcement powers.
“You can’t disrupt something from the inside. The idea is when you come from outside, from something with different perspective, that’s when you can disrupt things. We very intentionally wanted to disrupt business as usual at OJA.”
Prosecutors say Oklahoma City pain management doctor Harvey Jenkins Jr.’s opioid prescribing habits made him a danger to society. Jenkins says he’s the victim of a political witch hunt.
“If someone is going to look over whatever legacy I’m going to have, they may say “There goes Steve Kunzweiler, he’s kind of a hard-ass, but you always knew he was telling you the truth.’ I think that’s the best measure for me.”
