Days ahead of their self-imposed deadline, county election board officials broke some news Tuesday afternoon: 6,647 signatures requesting a grand jury investigation of the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office had been verified and turned over to the court clerk’s office.

When group founder Marq Lewis made his announcement to cheers from the dozen-or-so volunteers behind him, he couldn’t help but get in a little dig.
“Terry Simonson made a bet,” Lewis said, referring to the sheriff’s office spokesman who told the Tulsa World it was a longshot that the group could come up with 5,000 signatures. “And he lost that bet.”
SAPULPA — Eric Roberts, a former Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper who was arrested and charged last year with a series of on-duty rapes was bound over for trial Friday on one of the three cases he faces.
Testimony was given by the alleged victim in the first case filed against Roberts, which alleges he pulled a woman over last July in Tulsa County, eventually driving her to a secluded location where he ordered her to perform a sexual act.
