The Brady Arts District is getting more parking.
The Tulsa Parking Authority recently purchased a 45,000-square-foot property that runs along the north side of East Cameron Street from Boulder Avenue to Main Street, TPA officials confirmed Tuesday
The authority paid $2.1 million for the land, which is 300 feet long and 150 feet wide, according to the Tulsa County Assessor’s website.
TPA Director Peyton Haralson said the authority purchased the land in part to allay concerns prospective business owners in the Brady District might have about available parking.
“There seems to be a hesitation to move in because they don’t want to build parking,” Haralson said. “We are just trying to go where the demand might lead us. The Brady is up and coming.”
Haralson said it will be several months or longer before the authority determines what the parking facility will look like and whether it might include space for other activities such as retail or commercial operations.
But he insisted that whatever is built on the property would be in keeping with the theme and look of the Brady District.
“If the question come ups, ‘Will it be a 1,500-car concrete structure?’ That’s probably not in the cards,” Haralson said. “We’ll try to put something in that blends in as well and is functional for our own purposes.”
TPA’s other properties include Civic Center Parkade, 520 E. Third St.; 100 West Garage, 100 W. First St.; Main Park Plaza Garage, 410 S. Main St.; Williams North Garage, 11 E. First St.; Williams South Garage, 20 E. Second St.; and Performing Arts Center Lot, 110 E. Second St.
