Our guests on this week’s edition on the Listen Frontier podcast are Frontier reporter Cliff Adcock and Green Country Sierra Club Chairwoman Barbara VanHanken.
On Tuesday, Adcock reported that from 2014 through 2016, 1.2 million gallons of oil and 9.2 million gallons of wastewater were spilled throughout the state. During that same period, 457 million gallons of oil were produced in the state, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
An industry official interviewed by Adcock described the spills as “a pretty small amount” compared to the number of barrels of oil produced in the state annually.
Of course, VanHanken sees it differently, and she shares her thoughts with us on today’s podcast.
Adcock isn’t done reporting on the issue. Later today, The Frontier will post his latest story, this one detailing the spills that occur in the oil pipelines that crisscross the state.
