Leading Tulsa mayoral candidates will debate Thursday at Cain’s Ballroom. NonDoc is hosting the event in partnership with 2 News Oklahoma and the Tulsa Regional Chamber.
Candidates Karen Keith, Monroe Nichols and Brent VanNorman have qualified to participate in the debate based on their polling numbers. Casey Bradford; Kaleb Hoosier; John Jolley and Paul Tay are also candidates in the race.
In keeping with its mission of accountability journalism, The Frontier will partner with KJRH and NonDoc to fact-check select responses from candidates to debate questions in the days after the event. Frontier reporters use public records, interviews and other reporting to examine the accuracy of statements from public officials on a variety of issues for its fact-checks.
2 News Oklahoma will live-stream the debate on its website kjrh.com and is scheduled to broadcast the recording on TV at 9 p.m. Aug. 15. 2 News Anchor Erin Christy and NonDoc Editor-in-Chief Tres Savage will moderate the 1-hour debate. Event seating is only available by reservation. Questions can be directed to info@nondoc.com. Doors will open at 5 p.m. and the debate will begin promptly at 5:30 p.m. Food and drinks will be available for purchase from Mac’s BBQ at Cain’s Ballroom.
After debate, the Tulsa-based band Snake & The Charmers will play a free show from about 6:45 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Tulsans will vote on a new mayor on Tuesday, Aug. 27.
