City officials, including Mayor G.T. Bynum, City Council Phil Lakin and City Engineer Paul Zachary, took a private plane to visit the Bob Kerrey Bridge in Omaha, Neb., on Friday. The bridge connects Omaha and Council Bluffs, Iowa. City officials have been working with the George Kaiser Family Foundation for about a year to determine what type of pedestrian bridge should be built to replace the pedestrian bridge that spanned the Arkansas River at approximately 29th Street and Riverside Drive for more than 110 years. The foundation, along with other donors, are building a $400 million park named A Gathering Place for Tulsa that will connect to the pedestrian bridge. The private plane was provided by Robyn Flint Ballenger, chairwoman of River Parks Authority board of directors. The Bob Kerry Bridge bridges was designed and constructed by HNTB, the same firm that is consulting the city of Tulsa on the construction of the pedestrian bridge. Photo provided by HNTB
