Andrew Spector and Jake Lerner were so impressed with the young people they met in Tulsa’s schools, they decided to build a whole leadership program around them.

Tulsa Changemakers provides a framework for middle and high school students to identify problems and opportunities in their community, then works with the students to come up with solutions.

The leadership-development program relies heavily on community involvement, as students listen to and work with individuals and organizations to find solutions to the problems they’ve identified.

Spector and Lerner began the program in 2016, and they join us today as part of our monthly podcast with Teach For America.

Spector, a College of Charleston graduate, taught 6th grade at Bell Elementary. Lerner graduated from the University of Pennsylvania. He continues to teach at Tulsa Legacy Charter School
