I caught up with former Sheriff Stanley Glanz this evening to ask him about today’s Republican sheriff’s primary.
As one might expect, he didn’t have a whole lot to say.
A grand jury indicted Glanz on two misdemeanors last year and recommended he be removed from office. He resigned effective Nov. 1.
Glanz has been in federal court the last few weeks defending himself and the office he led for more than 20 years against a civil lawsuit filed by a former female inmate who claims she was sexually assaulted while in custody.
The conversation last 45 seconds.
Here’s how it went:
Glanz: Hello.
Me: Hey, sheriff.
Glanz: Yes
Me: It’s Kevin Canfield. You doing OK?
Glanz: Doing great.
Me: Hey, I am not here to bug you about anything important, but I was thinking of you today because they’re running for sheriff. I just wondered, has (it) been kind of a weird day for you? First time in a long time you haven’t run.
Glanz: Yeah, I don’t know what to say, Kevin, it’s just the whole world is upside down.
Me: Yeah, yeah. Have you been following the race much?
Glanz: No.
Me: No, really?
Glanz: I have been in court all month … and that’s all I need. I’ll talk to you later.
Then he hung up.
My next question would have been, Who are you supporting in the sheriff’s race?
I guess that question will have to wait for another day.
