More than 20 cities and counties in Oklahoma are in the midst of their own litigation against Purdue companies in state and federal courts. At least six of those cases were recently consolidated in a federal court case in Ohio, joining more than 1,600 other lawsuits.
The interim board of directors will oversee a foundation that will distribute funds to cities and counties participating in the Purdue settlement.

Some attorneys have raised concerns that Oklahoma’s settlement with Purdue, reached last week, could interfere with their lawsuits, which are independent from the state’s. Others are unsure whether they will elect to participate.
“This begins a new chapter for those struggling with addiction,” Attorney General Mike Hunter said at a news conference at the OSU Center for Health Sciences on Tuesday afternoon.
