Since 1970, the number of people overall in Tulsa’s jail has increased by more than 380 percent and the number of women in the jail grew by 3,400 percent, the Vera Institute’s report found.
The ruling means that discovery can now begin in the case, which is likely to include the state subpoenaing internal company documents and records and taking depositions of company officials and employees.
The event’s chairman said his role as lead attorney in the case that helped trigger a contentious first special session is not related to the event’s cancellation.
The top priority listed in the request document is an additional $10.1 million for employee salary increases.
The suit asks the court to vacate the OWRB’s approval of a permit allowing Oklahoma City to withdraw up to 37.5 billion gallons of water each year from Sardis Lake and the Kiamichi River.
The money comes from companies marketing medications, vaccines and medical devices, ranging from HIV/AIDS drugs to contact lenses.
In October the company’s founder was arrested in Arizona after being indicted for allegedly using a “speakers program” to bribe doctors to prescribe a powerful opioid painkiller to patients.
A spokesman for the Oklahoma Attorney General’s Office said Thursday that the state will seek to appeal the case to the U.S. Supreme Court.
