Vanessa Hall-Harper made a name for herself last year when she upset longtime District 1 City Councilor Jack Henderson.

Now, Councilor Hall-Harper is making news again, this time with her call for a temporary moratorium on what she describes as “discount dollar stores.”

As initially proposed, the moratorium would apply to City Council districts 1, 2, and 6 and be in effect for the remainder of the year.

On this week’s edition of the Listen Frontier podcast, we speak with Hall-Harper about why she is pursuing the moratorium and discuss the recent announcement that USA-BMX plans to build its Olympic training center and headquarters on the Evans-Fintube site north of downtown.

Hall-Harper also assesses the city’s efforts to improve relations between the Police Department and African-Americans in her district.
